OK, I admit a minimal bit of dabbling in froof, and I've paid 9 bucks a few
times for 6-packs of Bell's Oberon, but how the hell can this stuff be 9
bucks *per 12 oz. bottle*?

A guy at the tasting today grabbed two before I snapped that photo and I
just said, "are you nuts"? He replied "nectar of the gods, man" and I knew I
was dealing with either a froof master or just a complete idiot. ;)

I have not yet encountered the DFH World Wide Stout, but if I ever find
some, I would pay $9 a bottle in a hearbeat.

Other beers I've paid a lot for include:

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA -- $12 per 12 oz bottle
Dogfish Head Raison d'Extra -- $12 per 12 oz bottle
Rochefort #10 Quadrupel -- $7 per 11.2 oz bottle (fecking Belgians and
their retarded metric system or whatever)

Norbie, no offense but Oberon is not a froof beer unless you consider
the fact that is one of the few that my wife will actually drink. In
other words it is rather tame. I just got back from my local Wine 101
store which has outstanding beers on draft. I had Founders Centennial
IPA and Southern Tier Un*Earthly. Last week, they had Founder Double
Trouble which is off the map!

I too have not been able to grab DFH WWS. My dream is to make a black
and tan with DFH120 and WWS. They used to serve that combo at brew
tastings before micros got popular.

Bottom line, just like wine, good beer is not cheap!

I gotta disagree, McPeart. Oberon is one of the best wheat beers on the
planet, IMAO. I think it counts as a froof.

Ok, for the style I agree it is one of the best wheat beers. I guess
I just put bigger hoppier style beers on a pedestal. Then again, PBR
is one of the best Macro Lagers in its class as well.

For what it is worth, I had the Centennial IPA after the Southern Tier
IIPA and boy was that a mistake. I can only imagine if I had followed
it up with a wheat beer (much lighter).

All in perspective I guess....

It's made by a renowned micro brewer $9-10 a six-pack - so it's froof.
Again, whether a beer is froof or not has nothing to do with whether a girl
will drink it. ;)

Nah. Although I do find it interesting, I'm *way* too frugal to ever reach
any reasonable plateau of froofitude.
Plus, I still don't like IPAs and thoroughly despise any of that
chocolate/coffee/carmel stout sludge.

OK, let's take the Bells Taste Challenge and see if you can develop a
pallet for IPAs. If fresh and consumed at the right temperature I
think you will like them.

Take a Bells Oberon, and a Bells Two Hearted out of the fridge. Pour
the Oberon into a glass and let the Two Hearted warm up a bit. Enjoy
the Oberon then pour the Two Hearted. Note the aroma of both beers as
well as that is an important part of the experience. Now take a few
sips of the Two Hearted, each one should be progressively better as the
taste buds adjust to the wonder hops and full flavor. As the Two
Hearted warms up there is less bitterness in the hops and more great
flavor to experience. After finishing the beer, if you dare, have
another Oberon and let me know what you think.

One you pass this test, repeat it again next January with a Bells Two
Heart and a Bells Hopslam and observe what happens.

3 of the best beers in their class!

Cheers

Bingo. I think the venture into froofdom is an acquired taste.
Unfortunately, it's expensive. Which is why, in part, I have taken to
brewing my own.

He replied "nectar of the gods, man" and I
knew
I
was dealing with either a froof master or just a complete idiot. ;)
:You're being assimilated. I knew it was just a matter of time.
Um... no, I won't be doing *any* of this. But thanks for trying, buddy. ;)
See what you did? You got the froofers all excited. It's like you
threw a Penthouse into a room of 13yo boys.
Gotta do something, since we are missing the GayBook folks, Sat and
iDonk, we need some excitement.

3 of the best beers in their class!
Cheers
Are any of the other craft beer-loving Rush fans burnt out on IPAs?

Bell's Two-Hearted is one of the better ones -- and there is now a "double" version of it.

However, IPAs no longer agree with me. I go for Bell's dark ales -- their various stouts and porter.

Founders, another acclaimed brewery that has been mentioned in this thread, has a spectacular porter in their impressive lineup.

Brews like WWS (which I haven't tried, though I have had DFH's 120-
Minute IPA) are very difficult and time-consuming to make; and they've
got a lot of ingredients. So on balance, you're getting your money's
worth paying nine dollars for a 12-ounce bottle. I will, however,
usually prefer a six-pack of good (albeit less esoteric) stuff.
